ONE // Prioritizing Mornings
I have such a love/hate relationship with mornings. Since I’m in my fourth (and final) year of college, I’ve gotten very good at doing all of my work very late at night, sometime staying up way later than I should and waking up late to compensate for that. I have been getting in a better habit of waking up early because of work and I am in earlier classes this semester, so I really want to put my foot down and work harder to transition into being a morning person.
But the real change is going to be how I spend my weekend mornings. I have been spending a lot of time in Boston and as those who have experience there know, it’s a city that shuts down pretty early, even on weekends. Where I’m really productive during the week, I want to relish slow and easy weekend mornings. I find that when I do this, the day stretches out and I enter into Monday mornings feeling refreshed and ready to go. Especially when I have a chance to get in a weekend brunch.
TWO // Read Even More
I feel like I already read a lot, but I want to read even more. Books are the absolute best escape for me and reading has changed my life in such a huge way. I was always a big reader as a kid and once I got to college I didn’t have much time to read. Whenever I’m feeling stressed or generally out of sorts, getting lost in a story really helps me get back to normal. Picking up a book is generally my solution for all kinds of issues.
THREE // Drink More Water
This is a continuation off of last year’s goal. I try to keep a bottle of water with me at all times while working. I’m making this a goal too because I’ve found myself incredibly dehydrated at times (I think I just forget to drink water with everything going on).
FOUR // Be More Financially Savvy
I’m at a good point financially and have a good grip on my day-to-day expenses. That said, I really want to be better about my finances in preparation of entering post-grad life.
FIVE // Stand Up Straighter
Working on my posture is a HUGE goal of mine for the year. I know I’ll never have ballerina posture. My shoulders naturally curl forward a bit, but my posture is totally terrible. I’m working on strengthening my core and really just reminding myself to stand up straighter. I’ve found that since I made this a goal and a priority I notice myself slouching a lot more. (I don’t mean that I slouch more than before, it’s just that now I actually notice when I do.) Even though I know have a terrible seated posture and remind myself all the time to sit up straight, it’s actually standing and walking where I’ve noticed the worst posture. Now I try to keep it top of mind to walk better and to not slump down while standing. I swear I feel myself getting a little better every day and noticing the nuances even more.
SIX // Spend More Time Outdoors
Last but not least, I want to try to spend more time outdoors. I actually want to change this to: spend as much time outdoors as possible. If we’re talking about overall happiness, being outdoors is when I feel my happiest. I may not be happy about bundling up, but I’m always happy when I actually step outside. I think I spend too much time in front of a computer so when I get outside it’s just the best. This year, I want to hike more, walk more, sail more… Just relax and unwind in the fresh air more!
